You are fabulous in krafty aquamarine!

It's a mega 4 challenges from one card tonight!   The starting point was a fabby Kenny K girl - and their challenge this week was to use aquamarine.  I used this great girl in her fab furry boots and mega hair and coloured her with copics, and cut her out with a couple of nestie layers http://kennykkraftygirlzchallenges.blogspot.com/2011/03/kenny-ks-krafty-girlz-challenge-38-new.html

I used the sketch from http://cardpatterns.blogspot.com/2011/03/sketch-108.html as the basis of the card and as I like aquamarine and kraft together I combined the two so this makes it the perfect entry into the Spotted Chicks latest That's Krafty Thursday challenge http://thespottedchick.blogspot.com/2011/03/thats-krafty-thursday-49.html  The floral patterned paper is kraft paper with an aquamarine foiled flower and then the semi-circle is kraft card edged with aquamarine stickles dots to form a border.  The foiling, the stickles and the gem in the centre of the flower all add sparkle, shine and shimmer which are the requirements for Cooking it up with Katie this week so that makes challenge 4...  http://cookingitupwithkatie.blogspot.com/2011/03/cooking-it-up-55-sparkle-shine-and.html  A whimsey ticket sentiment on more kraft finishes it off nicely.

Well that's me for tonight - back to trying to get my head around flickr groups ready for Saturday's launch of my Charity Card Making Challenge Blog  -  do pop over to check it out if you haven't already http://stlukescharitycardschallenge.blogspot.com/

My First 2011 Christmas Card.....

Another really quick card and quick post tonight as I continue to get everything ready for our new charity card challenge - check out the link to find out more http://stlukescharitycardschallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-monthly-challenges-starting-2nd.html

One of my DT for this challenge - Deborah  is also a designer for CR84FN and I've never played in their challenges before so I thought it was time I played along.  The wanted a card with the colours of garnet chartreuse and cream and for some reason, even though its March, just lead me to think Christmas!  So this is what I came up with:

The base card is cream, the garnet strip is handmade paper with gold, red and cream stitching, and the chartreuse circle is from Craftwork cards, embellished with some garnet gems.  This is the challenge site if you want to play along http://cr84fncolorchallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/cr84fn21.html.

I used the lovely CAS sketch over at Less is More for the basis of my design - my second entry in this weeks challenge as I love the simplicity of this sketch  http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2011/03/week-8-sketch.html

I am also entering into the Christmas in Spring challenge over at the Secret Crafter Saturday Challenge http://thesecretcraftersaturdaychallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/challenge-127_26.html

See you all Saturday for the first St Luke's Challenge -eek getting nervous now ;-)

Let's Get Krafty!

A quick post tonight as I'm busy getting everything ready for the launch of my charity card making blog on Saturday - do remember to come and play along and click the link http://stlukescharitycardschallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-monthly-challenges-starting-2nd.html to find out about it if you haven't already visited - make a card a help a hospice - simples.....

I made this card for a double challenge - both Kraftin Kimmie's "spring colours" and my lilac is starting to come into bud so I went all lilac, and then I used the sketch from CPS and turned it on its side.  I thought she was the appropriate image to use whilst perparing my challenge blog!  She is coloured with copics, the table cloth is paper-pieced and shaded with copics and the sentiment is a slice off a nestie.  A few card candy dots add balance to the other side.  DP is from a baby stack but not sure which one now.

You can join in these two challenges by using the links below:

Less is More Week 8 - sketch

I've not been very creative this week, and not through want of trying.  As you might have seen from my earlier post, next Saturday, I am going live with my own monthly card making challenge, all in aid of my local hospice, and I think I've been creatively blocked whilst trying to come up with my card for the first challenge.  If you haven't already had a look at the challenge site - do go along today and check it out - follow us  now so you get the details of first challenge when it goes live in the early hours of 2nd April....  You'll find the site here - http://stlukescharitycardschallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/new-monthly-challenges-starting-2nd.html

As I TOTALLY addicted to LIM (in fact I chose my design team exclusively from regular participants of this challenge) I knew I'd want to play and I was thrilled when I saw this mornings sketch as I knew exactly what I wanted to make - puff - the pressure just burst like a cloud of smoke, the fog lifted and I found my mojo again - just hope it sticks around for the rest of the day.......

This is where you'll find the sketch and the lovely inspiration cards from Chrissie and Mandi which are stunning as always - http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2011/03/week-8-sketch.html

I used a white DL card as a base, and added an off white sheer ribbon which I ripple-folded.  On top of that I added a double-punched strip of light blue card with my EK Success Acanthus leaf punch, and added a blue-velvet ribbon down the middle of it.  I then stamped a dandelion circle, again this is and Elzybels set so no longer available but I love it - you get both the positive and negative, so I used the same ink (VersaMagic Night Sky) to stamp a few little seeds floating off the edge of the card.  I added a little glamour dust to the dandelion and the floating bits, popped it on a couple of nested circles then added a matching sentiment.

Happy Crafting everyone...

Thank you and a second go at LIM Week 7

I was supposed to be making a thank you card for friends last night who took us out for dinner on Tuesday night, but as is the case with me when I go searching in my much disorganised craft room for one thing, I am easily distracted by other things I find along the way......

So before I made the thank you (more on that below) I had a second go at the Challenge over at Less is More which this week is to make a masculine card, because whilst searching for an old foam stamp set, I turned up these cute little shirt and waistcoat die cuts that I had totally forgotten I had in my stash.

You just fold them along the pre-scored lines.  No idea where I got them from - probably had them about 8 years now I think.  I've added a couple of pearls for buttons on the waistcoat and used pen to make buttons on the shirt.  The greeting is just Happy Birthday stamped in blue pearl on the coffee pearl card, which is turns out is absolutely impossible to photograph, with our without flash!!!

I then managed to get on with the task I'd entered the craft room for, to make a thank you card for our friends who generously paid for dinner despite our protestations.  I made them a really simple card just with some strips of card cut with my EK success acanthus leaf punch, the aforementioned stamp from my foam set which was my first ever QVC craft purchase, again many, many moons ago, and an off cut from some my minds eye asparagus paper.

It's taken us a couple of years to actually organise this evening out, so I wanted to be sure it wasn't so long until we returned the favour, so I decided to make and include a little "gift voucher" to encourage them to come back to ours and let me cook for them (going out will always cause arguments over paying - this way I ensure I win!)  The image is from Mo Manning and is called just cooking so is highly appropriate!  The rest of the voucher is computer generated and I coloured the image with faber castell pencils and blending solution so the colour didn't show on the back of the voucher.

That's all from me today folks - off to eat my lunch now and then back to work.

Happy Crafting.

NEW CHALLENGE BLOG

Just a very quick post with some exciting news today.  I am working with my local hospice to try and help them raise some of the much needed funds required to keep their doors open to provide compassionate end-of-life care to terminally ill patients.  To that end, I have started my own monthly card making blog challenge, and hope that you will all join me each month in making a card, and if you would be so kind and caring, to send your card to the charity for them to sell (it's a freepost address within the UK so all it costs you is the card itself).  This is such a simple idea but it really could help them raise a lot of cash and what better excuse for making a card than for charidee????

The site is up and can be found here http://stlukescharitycardschallenge.blogspot.com/  but the first challenge doesn't go live until 2nd April (couldn't risk starting on April Fool's Day in case you all thought it was a joke!) and then there will be a new challenge on the first of each month thereafter.

PLEASE check it out, bookmark it, become a follower and then come back and play along each month, you really, really, really will be helping to put a BIG SMILE on a lot of needy faces.......

THANK YOU!

Simply Less is More - Week 7 - Masculine Card

Simply Less is More this week is all about the boys.  They want a clean and simple masculine card.  I know lots of people struggle with boys cards but I actually make quite a lot of them.  The design I chose is not as CAS as some of the other cards I've made for these weekly challenges, but I still think its clean enough.

I used one of my male teddies from Elzybels - I don't normally do teddies but I like this range as they aren't overly cutesy, and coloured him with copic markers (see I said I'd get colour in this week - no black and white from me for a change!).  To break up the plain background I did something I often do on my mens cards, and used up a lot of little strips of paper I keep (yes I'm that sad!) when trimming down matts.  I think these strips work well with most images and just add a little interest without getting prissy and femine.

The sentiment is from an embossing folder which makes a full birthday background, I used a sheet of metal and carefully cut around the letters to get the single sentiment - matted onto black to set it off against the blue card.

Hope you like it.

Craft Barn Wishing Well Challenge

A quick post with something a bit different from me tonight.  This week over at the Craft Barn Wishing Well, someone wanted to know how to make rosette flowers, and their lovely DT obliged with some very easy to follow tutorials and then challenged us to make our own.

It's not something I've ever considered making before but it looked very easy so I thought I'd give it a go, and do you know what, its was very simple but effective.  In fact, I liked it so much I made 2!  The first one is just a strip of paper, scored on my scoreboard and folded as per the tutorial.  I added a couple of buttons and some stickles for decoration.

The second one is made in the same way, but before scoring and folding, I cut the paper in my MS lace border punch so it gave the rosette a very open floral feel.  I think the two together make quite a cool card ;-)

To see the challenge - and the tutorial that shows you how to make all the different varieties (the metal one is cool!) check out this link http://thecraftbarnblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/wish-granted-concertina-challenge.html

Besties Birthday Card and Pressie

It was my best friends birthday on Monday, and when I saw last months Kraftin Kimmie release I knew I had to have the biker stamp as her hubby is a biker dude so I knew exactly the card layout I wanted to colour.  We both love Grease too so this Danny and Sandy image is just right!  It's quite a complex number to colour though and took me about 4 hours to make all in all!!!  I am pleased with it though.

She is also a big fan of jewellery so I made her this necklace as part of her gift in shades to match her current favourite wardrobe colours.  It's quite a simple necklace to make and I love the rose links that I found on ebay recently.

I am entering the card into the following challenges:

Blog Candy Draw Take 3.....

As the second winner didn't contact me to win their prize by midnight last night (well at all actually...) then it's time for another redraw.............   I'm starting to worry that no-one wants my prize :-(

I've done a scan of my followers from the paper copy I kept to keep track of who gets which "number" so you can see how I picked the winner

Ignore the fact that I'm following myself - tried to message someone without a blog and wasn't allowed as I wasn't a member of my own site!!!!
And here is the screen shot from Random.org as I still can't get the code embedded in my pages.
And the lucky winner this time is Number 47 - who is......   CIARA

Same as always - email me or comment with your details within 7 days (so you have until midnight on 22nd March)

Thanks

Less is More Week 6 Take Two....

I really wasn't happy with my first card for LIM challenge this week.  This off the edge thing really had me thinking - I've been laying in bed, running all my stamps through me head and trying to think of something else to do that hasn't been done by someone else already.

I was toying with the idea of colouring, but none of the stamps I had seemed to work off the edge, so here I am again with more black ink......

It is on kraft though so at least its not another black and white number!  I did play with putting the sentiment in red, but the balance just didn't sit right with me.  I'll try to think in colour for the next challenge I promise...

This is from the new Waltzing Mouse set called Back in the Saddle.  I stamped on scrap with momento black ink to get a pale image and stamped it off the edge of the card.  I then stamped the same image again without stamping on scrap for the middle image, and then for the third image I used versafine to get a darker black.  I was trying to get the effect of the horse galloping across the card. I think with the sentiment it would make a great invite for a stag party or boys birthday.

Check out the challenge blog here http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/

I'm happier with this card than my first - I do like how the LIM challenges are making me think more about different styles of card I wouldn't normally think of making (the symmetry quirk I have would never had allowed me to go off the edge of the card for example)  I really appreciate the tips from Mandi and Chrissie too - totally agree that the first card for this challenge didn't need the extra squiggle by the sentiment - so this time I resisted the urge to "add" anything too much at all :-)

However if this hadn't been a "one layer" challenge I may have been tempted to add a row of gemstone stars under the sentiment as below - what do you think?

STILL no winner came forward for my blog candy, so I will draw it again later, so followers please check back later to see if you won - let's hope it's 3rd draw lucky ;-)

Thanks for stopping by again.

Nephew Card

A quick post tonight with another card commission - I just got "adult nephew" as a theme so no much to go on....  I found this previously uninked stamp in my old wood stamp stash and used it as a starting point.  That took me to playing with circles so I used some circle alphabet stamps to spell out Nephew, added some nested circles, some buttons, some dots and some dotty and starry paper strips.  It was quite quick to do, and I think the overall look is quite effective so I can see me returning to this idea for other male cards.  I seem to always get comissions for male cards when all I have is a room full of pink, lilacs, ribbons and flowers - I think I may need to design my own range of masculine stuff!!!!

As this is also in shades of green, I am going to enter it into this challenge:

mum to be

A friend of mine called last week to tell me that she was expecting a baby - I think it was a bit of a shock, but she's very happy now she's got used to the idea.  I made a sweet little card for her in shades of green and teal which is about as neutral as I can bear to go.  Hope she wasn't expecting it to be pink ;-)

The stamp is an old woodmounted one from a bargain bin up at Topaz crafts I think but I love it so everyone gets the same image when they're expecting!  Stamped and coloured with copics, cut with my new nesties with papers and ribbons from my scrap stash.  Words are Elzybels - but you knew that already right ;-)

There are loads of "green" challenges around for St Paddy's day this week so I'm going to enter this card into one of them:

Simply Less is More Week 6 - "Off The Edge"

It's my favourite challenge again today :-)  I found myself torn this morning as I was going out with a friend shopping for the day for her birthday, and while I've been looking forward to the day out, I checked out the blog before setting off and instantly wanted to play along...  It's been weird not spending my Saturday crafting for the first time in 5 weeks.

So, as soon as I got home and we'd eaten, it was straight upstairs to play.  However, this weeks challenge is a honker!  Normally, I look at the challenge title and know instantly what stamp to use and what I'm going to do - NOT this week - I don't think I've ever done a card with the stamp going off the edge before.  It took a lot of thought, and 3 cards went in the bin (including a very wonky orange number that should never be discussed in public....)

I finally ended up with a flourish border stamp, which I stamped just over the edge to the right, and the top and bottom of the stamp fall off their edges too.  This is a clear rubber stamp set and I think it was a Basic Grey one but there is no branding on it and I've had it a while so can't remember for sure.  The little flourish by the sentiment is also from the same set.  The sentiment is from my ever trusted Elzybels sets.  All stamped in momento tuxedo black.  I was toying with embossing as I thought the shiny contrast down the side would be lovely, but I think the detail in the stamp is too fine to emboss.  I really should try using some colour in these challenges as I often seem to go to B&W - so with that and the fact that I found this soooo challenging - I may well be back with a second (or third) attempt this week...

Follow the link to play along - it's a lovely challenge with so many friendly 'commenters' - they broke my record for comments again last week with 38 so thanks again ladies :-)

Simply Less is More Week 5 #2

I really loved playing with the Waltzing Mouse stamps I used to make the engagement card the other night.  I've had the stamps a while but didn't have the matching spellbinders die to cut them out with so haven't really played with them much til now and I thought a pared down version would be another good entry into this weeks LIM challenge.  Rather than engagement this time, I thought a different sentiment coupled with the lovely label shapes would make a really elegant Mother's Day card and went for a floral theme as that is the gift my Mum always wants for Mother's Day - a house full of flowers!

Here's the link to the challenge site  http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2011/03/week-5-colour-pastel-colours.html

I started with a swirly stamped layer, in sage versamagic, and stamped a sentiment in the middle in the same colour I cut this out by hand rather than using my nestie to make it just slightly smaller than the nested layer behind it.  This layer was cut from a soft green with little leaves all over to match the sentiment.  I then used a floral embossing folder on some white card to again add to the floral theme and popped a very sheer sage green ribbon around it, and tied a little bow on the bow easy.   I think this is my favourite CAS card to date.

Thanks for taking a look :-)

Paper Pieced Golfer

Just a quick post with a card I made for a colleague to give to a male friend who is mad on golf.   You can't beat "Golfafella" from Stamping Bella for a golf card.  I paper-pieced his trousers, shirt, hat and golf bag and added some shading with copics.    Some golf papers and ribbon finish the look.

It fits the paperpiecing challenge at  http://fussyandfancychallenge.blogspot.com/2011/02/fussy-and-fancy-challenge-embossing.html  and the project for a male over at http://movingalongwiththetimes.blogspot.com/2011/03/challenge-89-card-project-for-male.html

Welcome little lady

My husbands niece had a little baby girl at the weekend, making me a Great Aunt for the third time - although no-one dare call me that - the nieces and nephews aren't much younger than me, so it feels odd for them to call me Auntie, so they only call it me to tease me!  To their kids, I'll be Auntie, that feels much better ;-)

They were told they were having a girl, so I had some bits and pieces put aside to make the card, but I didn't want to temp fate and make it before we knew for certain.  Hopefully they received it yesterday so it should be safe to blog it now:

The baby image is a real cutie from Magnolia - just love the frilly knickers!  I coloured her wtih copics, cut with a nestie and mounted on some bo bunny dots with a couple of sentiments.  It's not obvious from the photo (tried several shots but couldn't get it to show up clearly) but the white layer is a DCWV card front with "Baby" embossed all over it.  I added some lovely sheer ribbon, a pearly heart pin, some pink flowers with pearl centres and popped it on a couple of layers of DP, the final layer cut with MS PATP loops punch set.  It's and 8x8 inch card overall.

I'm entering the following challenges with it:

http://alphabetchallengeblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/r-for-ribbons.html

http://abc-challenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/p-is-for-pearls.html - the centres of my flowers are pink peals and the heart is a pink pearl pin.

Engagement Card

My husbands mate recently proposed to his girlfriend whilst on holiday in Australia, and he told us last week when the came home.  Hubby asked me to make an engagement card for him to take when they meet up again on Friday.  I wanted something classy and elegant (I think it will appeal to the lady, rather than the bloke, but then most cards do don't they!) and this is what I came up with.

I used a set of spellbinder compatible lable stamps from Waltzing Mouse as nothing says elegant more than one of Claire's lables I don't think, and layered them up (might take another photo later as the layers don't show too well) and stamped them in shades of sage and olive Versamagic inks.  The central sentiment is from an Elybels words set.   The final shaped layer is from wild asparagus from my minds eye.  I backed the whole thing onto a lovely paper from DCWV's Linnen matt stack which pulls all the colours together, and then added a little vintage seam ribbon in cream.  A MS punch onto some cream shimmer card adds a final touch of glamour to the last layer.

ED - here's a side shot to show the layers a little better.

I am entering the following challenges with this card:

http://waltzingmousesketchchallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/challenge-37march-5-2011.html  although the sketch is squares - I think from looking at some of the other DT cards - as long as there are layers, any shape counts....

http://anythingchallenge.blogspot.com/2011/03/die-cuts-challenge.html - Die Cuts - there is quite a few die cut layers going on here.

http://shellysimagesblog.blogspot.com/2011/03/ttt-challenge-3311-layers-layers-lots.html - lots of layers - well I count at least 5...

krafty thursday meets kraftin kimmie

I decided to combine a couple of my favourite challenges today - Kraftin Kimmie and The Spotted Chick's That's Krafty Thursday.

The theme this week at KK was to use twine or floss, so I went with a natural twine that I thought would team up well with the Kraft card requirement over at the Spotted Chick.  I used one of the new 50's stamps that I had yet to colour up and I decided to try to give her the Sepia treatment.  I like the idea and love the overall look of the card, but I'm not sure I got the colouring right - I went for vintage but I think with the skin tones I ended up with more "Zombie" that sepia!!!

I used a circle nestie and matted her onto another nestie lable shape using some lovely flocked velvet cardstock.  I added a little soft blue to complement the blue button and a twine bow to finish it off.

So the only question is - do you want fries with that???

Simply Less is More - Week 5 - Pastels

It's been all quiet on the blog front from me this week as I am suffering from "crafters elbow" or tennis elbow as it is more commonly known.  It's basically from over activity, so mine is definitely craft rather than sports related I can assure you!!   Therefore I have been forced to rest it this week and haven't even opened the craft room door since Monday night which makes for a very stressful atmosphere in our house as I get more and more fed-up and bored!

I've still been managing to check some blogs out on the reader on my phone as I can use it one handed ;-)  And that meant today that I saw the new challenge from Simply Less is More, and I love it so much, and am fed-up on my own today, that I decided to throw caution to the wind and play along - one CAS card can't stress my elbow surely.......

So here's my pastel entry - you can see the others here - http://simplylessismoore.blogspot.com/2011/03/week-5-colour-pastel-colours.html

As I also picked up this months craft stamper today, I whipped the butterfly stamp off the front as I felt it would look lovely in pastels.  I used Versamagic ink in Sage and Perfect Plumaria adding both colours directly to the stamp at once (cleaning any cross contamination from the pink pad with a cotton bud after I've finished).  I added a little Dew Drop Brilliance in Lightning Black to the centre.  I let it dry then cut it by hand and shaped it round a pencil.

I stamped directly onto card with circles from another of the my beloved Elzybels sets - sorry that I keep using something you can't get anymore but they are just perfect for the CAS look.  Again I used the same two colours over the different areas of the two stamps.  I then added two sentiments into the sentiment borders on the top and bottom circle, from the same stamp set again in Lightning Black, and popped the butterfly on a couple of foam pads for a little dimension on the central circle.  I'm really pleased with the overall effect.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented on my SLisM card last week - I had 32 comments - by far the most I've ever received and this is one of the reasons I want to come back and play these challenges every week - there is such a community building up around the site that makes it really unique and enjoyable.  I try to comment on a few cards each day myself but didn't do as many as I'd like last week with my sore elbow.  I really do appreciate your comments though, every single one of them!

Thanks for stopping by and spending your precious time on my little blog...

Thanks to everyone whose found my blog recently and decided to become a follower - its been very exciting logging on each day and watching the numbers grow :-)

I just checked before going to bed and realised I've made my 50 target, so as promised, its time for a random draw to give away by blog candy.

(sorry - I'm having problems getting the random thing to stay showing the result - the number drawn at random was 26)

    Drum roll please....

and the winner is  Jo-Jo Scraps !

drop me an email with your postal address and I'll get your candy in the post.  I'll give you a week to claim your prize, if the prize isn't claimed, by midnight on Tuesday 8th March (GMT time) then I'll redraw the prize.

Keep an eye out as I may well do it again once I hit triple digits as it's been too exciting to stop now!

    Thanks for playing
