Baby Bumps

It's all been about babies this week - one of my mates from work is due in a couple of weeks and today was her last day in the office so I've been busy making cards and gifts from us all for her.

To begin with I made a card on my cameo silhouette for her, in the shape of a onesie, and I used another cute cute file to make the giraffe to decorate it and the word baby - suitable coloured in neutral yellow as she doesn't yet know if she's having girl or a boy.

The silhouette came into play again to make this super cute favor box which I used to hold the money we collected for her - we were going for a gift card, but given the number of stores going into liquidation we thought that the folding gift vouchers exchangeable at any store were a much safer option ;-)   She didn't know what she wanted to get so at least now she can choose stuff she really needs.   I stamped some decorative panels on 3 sides and on the onesie on top, stamped a sentiment on the front (Waltzingmouse Compact Sentiments) and then wrapped all around it with some dotted washi tape.

Finally, with some of the collection, I made her something fun and just a little bit larger than a tiny box to make her gift presentation a little more impressive!   I'd seen these nappy cakes online and thought they looked like lots of fun and not that difficult to make - here's the finished article - both in its wrapped and unwrapped form.

It was quite easy to make - although rolling 130+ nappies into tight rolls took a little longer than anticipated and I had to run out for extra packs when I ran out half way through the 2nd tier! 

The "cake" is filled with lots of useful baby products - talc, wipes, shampoo and a few little mummy toiletries too.  You simply tape your tallest items into the middle and then you need a lot of elastic bands and it's then just a case of adding lots of your rolled up nappies until you get nice round tiers of "cake"   Here's an in progress shot of the bottom two tiers.  I wrapped some bibs around the the baby cream to make the centre of the top 2 tiers nice and round.

The "roses" which decorate the cake are actually just individual baby socks, rolled up and wrapped with a green pipe cleaner with a die cut felt leaf.  The pink and green "baby" words are actually white chocolate lollies I made just by melting some white chocolate and adding food colouring into shop bought molds.

And here is a shot of the happy Mum-to-Be being surprised in our reception with her cake - she loved it although was a little disappointed when she realised it wasn't entirely edible ;-)

More babies

I didn't get much time to look around everyone's entries for the Less is More challenge yesterday as my friend, who isn't remotely crafty, came round to my house for lunch with a card kit she bought whilst with me on one of our recent shopping trips to Chesterfield.  I convinced her she could make the kit so she bought it and she came round so I could help and she could use my stash - they're Christmas cards but it's never too early to start right?   She did enjoy it but she definitely didn't catch my crafting bug (more's the pity as it would be nice to have someone to play with!) but I do think she made a good job for a first attempt (even though she was a bit freaked when I suggesting adding to and changing the designs that were on the box!!!!)

However, I did make a start on my visiting, and I was totally blown away by this card by Vicky as I just love how clean and graphic it isand the little heart is so cute.  I was really inspired to make an even more stripped down version - so I knocked up a couple of quick cards, again for the forthcoming sales I'll be doing for St Lukes (we have a couple coming up in June).  They haven't photographed very well as the colours are so soft (angel pink and summer sky momento)  The hearts are actually sequins.

Wee little babies

I decided to make a couple of cards to go into the St Luke's box - baby cards always sell well.  I used the onsie jumbo wheel from stampin up and coloured (copics) and cut out 2 of the images - one pink, one blue - very predictable ;-)   I mounted them onto a white panel embossed with baby feet and some colour co-ordinated mats behind.  I stamped the gorgeous sentiment from Waltzingmouse Compact Sentiments onto matching paper.  Cute and very easy to assemble.

CASual Baby

It's Friday night so time to play with the CASual Friday Girls and this week the challenge is a CAS baby card, they must have known that my new Magnolia stamps had arrived today - the new release is all about familiy and they're super cute  :-)  http://cas-ualfridays.blogspot.com/2012/03/cfc42.html   I decided to play with the little boy first as I wasn't in the mood for pink.

I also thought I take the opportunity to join the paper players again this week as they want a card to feature something old and something new, well my stamp is new, so I selected some old papers to go with it.  The alphabet DP is what remains of the very first 12 x 12 sheet I bought many moons ago and the blue strip is from an old DCVW sticky backed matt stack.  http://paperplaychallenges.blogspot.com/2012/03/12-week-9-something-old-something-new.html

I coloured the baby Edwin on kraft again with my faber castell pencils and carefully cut him out to mount him on the card.  The senitment which I think is really lovely, is from a Fiskars set all about babies.

OLW inspired by cake :-)

This is only the second time I've entered the OLW challenge over at Simplicity, but as I am all about the CAS of late thanks entirely to my weekly dabblings in LIM,  so I think it will become a regular thing from now on.
 
I absolutely loved the challenge this time round - you had to choose a cake from Cake Wrecks and use it as the inspiration for a baby card.  I chose the following cake as I love chocolate and pink together - although in my interpretation I completely changed the colours!

I used the stripes and the piping as my inspirational details.  I used an oval nestie to very lightly draw ovals on the top of the card and then drew over the pencil lines with liquid pearls in lilac.  I used the same liquid pearl to create the dotty pattern.  At the bottom of the card I created stripes in two shades of purple, masking off the stripes with post-its and sponging ink on top.  To finish it off I used some sheer ribbon to create a single central bow.  The sentiment is from a Joanna Sheen baby bunny set I think.
