House of Cards Poppies

This month at House of Cards we have a colour/photo inspiration for you to follow through the weekly style challenges and this week it's the Clean and Simple style.   You can chose to be inspired by the colours (at least 3) or by the photo but as you can see from my card above I decided to use both.

I used the orange and green as mats for my focal image which was entirely created with a memory box die.  I cut it from some black card and then used the waste as a stencil to ink through flipping it over to give me a bud on either side.  I then cut the black die cut apart to create a different shape and glued it down with a fine glue pen.  The sentiment (sorry can't remember which set its from) was stamped onto dark green card stock to get more of the colours in.

Now it's your turn - hop on over to House of Cards and play along with us :-)

Inlaid Die Cuts

I'm still feeling really dizzy - suspected inner ear infection but antibiotics have failed to make much difference so far - so I've not felt up to crafting all week.  I did make one very simple card as I love playing with putting the bits back into die cuts and that's the challenge this week at PTI Inlaid Die Cut Challenge

I didn't have an appropriate PTI die to play with so I used a memory box flower and die cut it from craft and some DP.  I used the DP for the outline and then inked up the pieces from the main card panel to ink with distress inks and piece back in.   I finished with a matching gem and a sentiment from Embroidered Blooms in deep lagoon (although it looks black!)

That's all I can manage for now folks - need to go and lie back down to stop the room spinning.  Catch you later.

Floral Dash

I've only tried to the do the 10 minute craft dash once and I really struggled - I am sooo not a quick crafter!  However, I got some pretty sequins on Sunday that match one of the colours on this weeks challenge so I thought I'd give it a bash - sticking on a few sequins is quick isn't it?  Not when you're me apparently......

I just scraped in with 33 seconds to spare but I was really starting to panic!   I die cut my flowers from some brown DP (very old not sure who its by) - I then trimmed it to fit my square card - only I cut it too short - damn, panic, 3 minutes gone already - I had to crop a little off the end of the card to make the panel fit again - 4 minutes gone -eek!   I cut a panel of pink card and glued it behind the die cut  in the brown and got glue in the wrong place so had to waste another precious minute with my dry glue eraser - more panic.  I thought the sentiment would look best in white, but my white inks are not good so that required embossing - heat embossing wtih 5 minutes left - this is never going to happen - but it did (just don't look too close cos I didn't have time to find my embossing buddy so there's a bit of loose powder hanging around....)  I was now down to 8 minutes - quick add some strips of teal mirri tape to match the sequins and then spend a full minute faffing with the placement of 6 sequins - stop the clock - PHEW!   I thought crafting was supposed to be relaxing - I need more practice at timed challenges obviously!!!!

As it's also eligible for the current Dies to Die for challenge which requires you to feature flowers, I'm entering it into their challenge too - http://cuteycrafts.blogspot.co.uk/p/die-ing-for-challenge.html
